Best feature of Al’s Resort is it’s location, right smack in the centre of everything. All of Samui’s best clubs and bars are within 5 minute walk. Yes, the resort is a little worn out and definitely has seen better days but the beach right up front is amazing, great spot for swimming on a beautiful day with lots of sun-beds laying around reserved for guests to chill in, few steps away you have their beachfront pool area and swim up bar area, offering beautiful views over the ocean that you can enjoy cocktail in hand, a second smaller pool is also available in the courtyard. Restaurant on the other hand was a bit of a disappointment, expensive and below par but there’s literally hundreds of options within easy walking distance. Found the staff to be friendly and welcoming. I booked their cheapest Courtyard Deluxe category, room was adequate but a little smallish at 25 m², Courtyard Studio might be better suited for those who plan to spend more time in their rooms or need more space. All the basic necessities provided: Air con, mini-bar, electronic safe, tea and coffee making facilities, free drinking water, etc. Few negatives: Bed a bit hard, […]
200 Chaweng beach, Koh Samui, 84320 Chaweng Beach, Thailand
The Ark Bar Beach Resort is a large complex featuring several bars and restaurants set up around a main swimming pool with swim up bar. This place is slap bang in the midst of all the hustle and bustle of Chaweng, just 2 minutes walk from Soi Green Mango and mostly caters to young party people (18 to 40 years old), who like to listen to DJ’s playing electronic beats. Typical day starts with chilling house music in the morning, that slowly gets louder in the afternoon and escalates until the whole place transforms into one big beach party at night. There are live DJ’s from 2PM until 02AM daily, two big beach parties each week on Wednesdays & Fridays plus pool parties going on around the clock, needless to say, don’t come here if you want to avoid party central. The resort does has two more secluded and relatively quiet pools if you really need some time off to recover after a long night out. Rooms are pretty good for what you pay, been here a few times, pictures below are from my last trip during Songkran in the Premier Deluxe room category, Superior and Deluxe rooms are a […]
159/89 Moo 2, Chaweng Beach, Chaweng, Bophut, Ko Samui 84320, Thailand
Beer Bar Central is the best option for single male traveler looking for companionship and nightlife entertainment in Lamai. This area hosts the town’s largest concentration of girlie bars and can be found just a few minutes walk away from the more family friendly Lamai Central Plaza. Crowd is a little older, very few couples around so the bargirls are more brash, fun and energetic. This redlight district is comprised of a large beer bar complex at it’s centre surrounded with more girlie bars sprinkled along it’s interconnected streets, all of which are competing for the chance to go make your at night. Your best bet is to just wander around this busy areas until you find something that catches your fancy, beware what you pick as some bars have also ladyboys working.
108/8 Moo 3, Tambon Maret, Ko Samui District, Surat Thani 84310, Thailand
The Bill Resort is a cheap and easy place offering guests a relaxing environment right along one of my favorite parts of Lamai beach. Resort is quite big, spreading out from the top of the hillside all the way down to the swimming pool and restaurant area next to the wonderful beachfront. The setting are really nice, rustic little bamboo huts surrounded by nicely manicured gardens, plants and trees which truly immerse you in the jungle. I Didn’t come here expecting for big luxury so I was quite pleased with the cheapest standard bungalow category which are bit dated but come with all the basic necessities : A big bed (little hard but nothing outside the Thai norm), small fridge stocked with cold drinks, good AC (but not great), older TV set with a handful of english speaking channels and a terrace to sit outside. Location is about 10-15 minutes from the nightlife, be aware the cheaper category rooms involve a trek up a steep hill. In the end I’d say Bill Resort is great for the money and would come back in a heart beat, perfect for those who like it simple, comfortable and cheap. Definitely not 5-star accommodations […]
127 Moo 3, Lamai Beach, Maret, Ko Samui 84310, Thailand
The Chalala is an older but well-maintained beachfront resort facing a little lagoon surrounding the Koh Mat Lang island. The area right up front is too shallow for swimming, so you’ll have to walk down to the right a few 100 meters and for any really type of bathing or use their pool right next to the beach to cool off in. The resort is quite small with only 16 individual bungalow spread out across lush tropical gardens which offers a very relaxed atmosphere, food at the beachfront restaurant is good and very decently priced, bar has one of the longest happy hour ever, from 12pm to 9pm and attracts lots of people from neighbouring resorts. The bungalows are a bit quirky, but they have plenty of space and are colourful. Inside, one could almost (ok with a little imagination) picture living in the town of Bedrock from the Flintstones era. The interior is spit in two levels, with a raised area for the bedroom in the back. Amenities are simple but include all the essentials: Firm bed, TV, mini-bar, good air con, small safe, boiler with coffee/tea, free water, beach towels, etc. All bungalows do have a small porch […]
119/3 Moo 2, Chaweng Beach ,Bouphut, Koh Samui, Suratthani, 84320, Thailand
The Chaweng Palace is a budget hotel located in a relatively quiet side-street, just a stone’s throw from the beach (160 meters away) and 10 to 15 min walk to the nightlife of Soi Reggae & Soi Green Mango. Nothing fancy here, you won’t find any pool, restaurant or even elevator. Facilities are limited to 16 guest rooms spread in a 3-storey building. Since my first visit so Samui, a little over a decade ago they have consistently been one of the cheapest guest friendly hotels in the area with prices usually hovering under 1000 Bahts. I have always booked the Superior room during my visits, they are spartanly furnished and kept reasonably clean, beds are firm but nothing outside of the usual Thai standards. Amenities are limited to the bare minimum: TV, small mini-bar, safe and A/C. No kettle with tea/coffee or complementary water. Shower system in the bathroom is old and in need of an upgrade but nonetheless did the job. Overall definitely a little rough around the edges but for the cheap price of admission one cannot really complain. Good option for travellers on a budget who are looking for room 2 minutes walk from the beach. […]
155/24 Moo 2 Chaweng Beach Rd, Chaweng, Bophut, Ko Samui 84320, Thailand
The Coconut Beach Resort is a modern airy three story building ideally situated right next to the beach and within a 5 minutes walk from the Lamai Central Plaza beer bar complex. The beach end is beautiful, very good spot for swimming, plenty of beach lounges to go around, cold beer served at the bamboo bar and nice quiet pool just few steps away from the ocean. Booked the cheapest category standard room, fairly modern but a bit spartan, size ok at 30 m², decently sized balcony, all the essential amenities covered: Big comfy bed & pillows, good air-con unit, mini-bar, free Wi-Fi desk, bathroom has shower over bath. Few negatives: LCD TV attached in a corner on the ceiling is a bit small, boiler with tea/coffee missing but available for free at the reception. Otherwise nothing to really complain, central to the nightlife, right at the beach with pool and bar, definitely recommended for the price. Have a look below for the pictures I have personally took during my stay of the room and hotel amenities. What you see below are the actual pictures I took when staying in their Standard room
124/433 Moo 3, Lamai beach, Lamai, Samui, Thailand 84310
Lamai Central Plaza is a large 2000 square meters open air plaza best known for it’s long-established dozen or so beer bars at it’s centre, popular street food courts on it’s side and it’s weekly free Saturday nights boxing events including men, women and if you are lucky transgendered fighting it off in the ring during the high season months. Beer bars generally open between 6 & 7 PM but things here really only start to get lively after 9PM with loud music and pole dancing bargirls once the couples and families with children have gone home. Ambiance usually is at full swing by 11PM and can keep going pretty late depending of the season, don’t worry if you don’t find a bargirl that tickle your fancy, selection here can be scarce at times as this not Lamai’s premium adult playground. Most punters in need of companionship will actually head straight to a bigger beer complex named “Beer Bar Central“, and it’s area which comprised of a few interconnected streets offering a wider selection of girls just 5 minutes walk away. I strongly suggest giving a try at both redlight districts during your stay in Lamai.
124/62 Had Lamai Rd, Tambon Maret, Amphoe Ko Samui, Chang Wat Surat Thani 84310, Thailand
Location is sublime, right on the beach surrounded by lush tropical gardens, the Montien House Hotel offers guests a great place to relax and unwind after a long night out. Loved chilling around the beachfront pool and bar with the sand in my toes. Then once the sun came down again and it was time to go out, Chaweng’s center of attraction and nightlife: Soi Green Mango was only 5 minutes walk away offering the best of both worlds. The Montien House is an older resort that offers several types of accommodations, the more modern premier deluxe rooms are located near the reception in back, inside the newer building while the other room and bungalows, villas and suites are spread across the garden, closer to the beach, pool & restaurant. I went with their premium deluxe category and was quite pleased with it, rooms are spacious, modern and bright. Definitely not 5-stars but everything was kept spotless, bed was very comfortable, modern air-con unit was silent, tv offered a decent selection of channels and the shower hot. Overall a good choice for those who want a base right on the beach and close to all the action. Have a look […]
5 Moo 2, Chaweng Beach, Bophut, Ko Samui 84320, Thailand
The Palm Coco Mantra is a beautiful new boutique hotel with just 20 rooms and 6 bungalows nestled on a fabulous beachfront location on the outskirts of Lamai. Vibe is relaxed and friendly, The grounds are meticulously landscaped. Facilities include a lovely infinity pool, plenty of comfy sun beds/big bean bags adjacent to a beach bar and restaurant area. The staff are exceptional, you really feel that personal touch from the moment you set foot until the moment you leave. The beach was fine, although water levels in this part of the bay are very shallow, making it not suitable for swimming. Great resort to chill out, lay on beach, dive in pool sometimes and enjoy the view. Got a Superior Sea View on the third floor, rooms is bright and colourful, bed large and extremely comfortable, also spacious enough at 30 m² in size, all the essential facilities provided: Mini-bar, TV with HBO, excellent WiFi signal, small safe and padlock, coffee/tea making facilities plus a quiet and efficient a/c unit. Bathroom was a bit of a letdown, just a wet room but everything functional. The balcony has very comfy chairs with cushions, the sea view is really stunning to […]
143/11 Moo 4, Lamai beach, Maret, Ko Samui 84310, Thailand
The Samui Sense Beach Resort is a perfect options for those looking for a holiday with the beach on your doorstep and almost immediate access (under 5 minutes walk) to the best nightlife and beer bars of Lamai. Located on a beautiful stretch of sand with no shortage of sun loungers and bean bags around, good beach bar, well priced drinks and friendly staff. Gardens are lush and green, atmosphere is very relaxing by the pool. The Samui Sense is a rather small resort with 44 rooms, facilites are not new but generally well maintained, they offer a selection of the cheaper superior rooms in the main building, while the more expensive suites and bungalows are around the pool area. I booked the most basic room, the superior category, found them to be exactly as described online, well appointed, good bed ( they can provide you with an extra top bed if you find yours too hard), strong AC unit, TV with limited selection of channels, lots of hot water in the shower, safety box and small mini-bar. Keep in mind that at 22 m², this category is not for those who plan to spend a whole lot of time […]
124/61 Moo 3, Maret Beach, Lamai, Samui, Thailand 84310
Located in the centre of Chaweng, Soi Green Mango is the undisputed ground zero of the Island’s nightlife. Think of it as a smaller and more compact version of Bangla road in Phuket featuring a myriad In-your-face girlie bars, pubs, clubs, discos, massage parlours, go-go bars and party all night long entertainment. It’s loud, it’s brash and usually if you are out to party, regardless of where you’ve started your evening you’ll likely end up at some point in Soi Green Mango. The Green Mango Club, located at the very end of the road, has been the soul and heart of Chaweng’s nightlife for decades. This super-club has a huge open air space featuring spacious dance floors and multiple bars with scantily-clad Thai ladies waiting to accommodate customers looking for date. Definitely your best bet if you are looking to pickup a Thai working girl for the evening outside of the girlie bars/go-go scene. In case you are in need of a change of scenery, you can give a try at one of its two sister clubs:Mambo & Sweet Soul down the street.
Soi Green Mango, Chaweng, Koh Samui, 84320, Thailand
Soi Reggae is a kilometre long lane found on the Chaweng Lakeside, it’s name derives from the popular Reggae Pub found at its end, one of the oldest and top rated venues for nightlife in Samui. The Reggae Pub is a large, two-story club that usually kicks off the evening with live bands playing a mix of reggae and popular rock ballads until around midnight, from where DJ’s take over and play more modern electronic beats until 2-3AM. Atmosphere is friendly, laid-back and drink prices are quite competitive priced. The freelancers here are generally more aggressively friendly than in other clubs. I’ve noticed over the years that the area has seen a slow and steady decline in popularity with the rise of places like Soi Green Mango and the ARK Bar’s beach parties but it usually still fills up and gets quite busy from 11PM onwards. Out on the 200 meter long street leading to the Reggae Pub is where you will find the Chaweng’s second largest concentration of beer bars, expect loud music, bargirls on both sides of the street shrieking the usual welcomingly: “hello sexy man” at passers-by while trying to pull you in their bar a few laughs, […]
Soi Reggae, Chaweng, Koh Samui, 84320, Thailand
Al’s Laemson Resort is located on the top of a little hill in the Northern end of Chaweng beach. The atmosphere here is very relaxed, no big buildings, the only type of accommodation available are free-standing bungalows and villas that have been properly spread out on the hillside in a way you don’t overlook your neighbours, adding a feeling privacy. Bungalows, which start at 30 sqm are quite spacious and well equipped. I really enjoyed the simple little touches like having your own Nespresso machine to start the day with some real coffee. Amenities include a lovely pool area and bar overlooking the ocean. The beach, while not great for swimming due to it’s shallow waters is very secluded and feels private. A complimentary shuttle service is offered to their sister hotel, Als Resort, just 4 minutes walk away from the Green Mango entertainment area. Otherwise it’s approximately a 30 minutes walk or 10 min/ 50 baht songthaew ride. In the end, Al’s Laemson Resort best suited for those who are looking for a base away from the hustle and bustle of the main strip. Have a look below for the pictures of the room and hotel amenities.
154/14-15 Moo 2, Chaweng Beach, Bo Phut, Koh Samui 84320, Thailand
The Aloha resort is located at the quieter end of Lamai Beach, but within easy distance (10 to 15 minutes walk) from Beer Bar Central, the main bargirl enclave in Lamai. The swimming pool, immaculate grounds and beach are what sells here. Rooms, especially in the lower categories are a little dated and in need of renovation but are clean, spacious and provided with everything you need. WiFi on the other hand is poor throughout the resort either loosing connection or extremely slow, except for a tiny area in the reception area. There are ample sun loungers around the pool and beach, not too much towel reservation going on. No pool bar though, a little annoying to have to go in the small restaurant each time to ask for a beer. No fault to the staff, which are super sweet and are doing their best although some language difficulties. In the end: Quiet location but not far from the action, nice pool & beachfront area. Accommodations are simple, furniture older but not bad value for the money overall. Have a look below for the pictures of the room and hotel amenities.
128 Lamai Beach, Lamai, Maret, Ko Samui, Surat Thani, 84310, Thailand
The AM Samui Palace really got a lot going for it. 1st, the location offers the best of both world, within a 5 minutes walk you can either have your toes in the sand at the Lamai beachfront or doing some nighttime shenanigan in the company of bargirls at any one of the towns beer bar enclaves (Beer Bar Central or Lamai Central Plaza). 2nd comes the amenities, Once locked inside, the AM Samui Palace feels like a little oasis of peace with well manicured tropical gardens, two beautiful swimming pools, loads of sunbeds and a fantastic swim up bar to chill around during happy hour (2-6pm). 3rd the rooms: Spacious, modern, well furnished and with a big balcony, some even with direct pool access in the newer wing. WiFi throughout the resort works great. Awarded TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence. Would highly recommend this hotel! Have a look below for the pictures of the room and hotel amenities.
124/39 Moo 3 T. Maret, Lamai, Maret, Ko Samui 84310, Thailand
The Baan Suan Sook Resort is a small family ran business situated on a quiet hillside surrounding Chaweng Lake, Location is good, just far enough away from the strip not to be bothered by all the noise but only a 10 to 15 minutes slow walk from the main entertainment venues and the beach. Definitely a good option for budget travellers, as for under 1000 THB you’ll usually be able to get a hold on of their bungalow style accommodation with comes with a big private balcony/terrace area and all the expected amenities: Cable TV with a few English speaking channels, mini-bar, reliable Wi-Fi signal, en-suite bathroom and air-con system that kept the place cool without being noisy. Yeah sure, the rooms are a little basic but the maid does an excellent job keeping everything kept clean and tidy. The highlights of the resort is the infinity swimming pool at the very top of the hill, where you can dip in the water and admire the views across the island and the coast from the edge of the pool while hearing the monkeys playing in the background. Keep in mind it’s a quite a steep walk up to the pool, […]
147/7 Moo 2, Chaweng lake, Bo Phut, Koh Samui 84320, Thailand
The Beach Republic is located on the northern part of Lamai Beach, about a 30 minutes leisurely stroll along the beach into central Lamai or a 5 minute scooter ride. The resort, which opened a decade ago has been very well maintained and is quite unique, there two beachfront pools from where you can enjoy sweeping ocean views with a great assortment of places to relax and chill out around the property, really comfortable sun loungers, sofas and large cabanas. Apartments & Suites are great, tried the club suite category, beautiful decorated rooms, modern and up to date with all the amenities one would expect from an upscale resort. Very comfortable beds, multiple pillow choices, good English entertainment options the TV, well equipped kitchenette, excellent WiFi throughout, actually better than in some EU & UK destinations! Large balcony overlooking the gardens with table, chairs and sun lounger. Staff is extremely friendly and attentive, you can see them from early in the morning out and about early cleaning up the beach and pool, making sure everything is immaculate. Included Breakfast is fantastic, great selection on offer. À la carte menu was delicious but pricey compared to local places to eat. In the […]
176/34 Moo 4, T. Maret, Lamai Beach, Lamai, Ko Samui 84310, Thailand
Definitely not one of the cheapest options in Chaweng at over $100/night but if you are looking to splurge a little, this is hands down the best guest friendly property in Koh Samui. Voted “Travellers choice of 2018” on TripdAdvisor, it’s achieved their highest recognition and is rated one of the Top 25 Hotels in Thailand. The main reason for the award at this 4-star hotel is the level of hospitality and attentiveness you get from the staff, nothing is ever too much trouble. From the moment you check into the resort you are treated wonderfully and met with cold towels and a refreshing drink by the lovely reception staff. After a few brief formalities you are escorted to one of the 32 rooms that make up this beautiful, intimate resort and shown around the nicely manicured tropical gardens which feel like an oasis separated from the hustle and bustle of the Chaweng outside. The dipping pool and beach are maximum 2 minutes walk from the furthest room. The rooms are tastefully decorated in traditional Thai style with all the facilities/amenities expected from a top resort. Bed and pillows are super cozy and the rooms are serviced twice a day, […]
11/2 Moo 2 Chaweng Beach, Chaweng, Bophut, Ko Samui 84320, Thailand
The Chaweng Garden Beach Resort is well priced for its location sitting between the main strip, almost directly opposite to the bustling nightlife scene of Soi Green Mango with its load the beer bars/clubs/Go go bars and the turquoise waters of Chaweng beach. Comprised of multiple low rise buildings it is surrounded by beautifully maintained tropical gardens, there are two swimming pools. A newer one with bar which was recently added to the one nearer to the beach. Security is good, guards are posted near the main entrance and will kindly ask for the ladies ID you bring back overnight. Although a little outdated the Superior rooms were clean and well presented, featuring a fairly spacious private balcony with small table and two loungers. Room was relatively quiet for the location, no complaints during my stay, very good AC unit, great Wi-Fi signal, large bathroom with a separate tub and shower and all the needed toiletries. Breakfast is served near the beach, you get to chose from an ample selection of both asian and western buffet spread. At night loungers are swapped for tables by the sea where you can enjoy diner by the beach before going out. The Superior Rooms come […]
162/8 Moo 2, Chaweng Beach, Chaweng, Bophut, Ko Samui 84320, Thailand
The Chaweng Resort is an older resort in traditional Thai style that is best suited for those looking for a quiet daytime retreat by the beach away from hustle and bustle of Central Chaweng. Definitely not 5 stars, but it good value nonetheless for it’s beachfront location, two pools and year round low prices, premises are kept clean. The bungalows are fairly basic but clean, with a charming rustic old furniture made out of wood, beds are a little hard but still comfortable otherwise no worries: Large fridge, modern flatscreen-TV with Cable/satellite coverage, air condition ran fine and good wifi signal throghout. The gardens surrounding offer the bungalows great privacy and are a delight, only 2 minutes walk to beach or pool maximum. Beer bars of Soi Reggae are about a 10 to 15 mins slow walk away, Soi Green Mango is around double that but since the resort is located just in front of the main road public transportation is cheap and plentiful. Have a look below for the pictures of the room and hotel amenities.
18/1 Moo 3 Chaweng Beach Road, Chaweng, Ko Samui 84320, Thailand
The Coral Bay Resort is located near the northern end of Chaweng Beach, in a more quiet area, perfect for those looking for a quiet place to relax and/or detox during the daytime. There are 55 individual free-standing bungalows spread out on 10 acres of lush tropical grounds at the Coral Bay, so If you are looking for peace there’s plenty of that here, the only noise you will here is the constant sound of birds, toads and geckos. The resort has a good size pool and a semi-private beach shared with 2 other hotels. Due to the shallow waters this is not really a swimming beach most of the time but the large pool makes up for that. Bungalows are quite big and have a rustic charm going for them, all made of dark teak wood with a big veranda in front of the entrance and lots of furniture on it to relax and watch the day go by. Standards are generally good, some parts could do with a little renovation like the TV from the 90’s era or the wi-fi signal but otherwise they feel very cozy. The nightlife and Soi Green Mango are about 2KM away, so […]
9 Moo 2, Chaweng Beach, Chaweng, Bophut, Ko Samui 84320, Thailand
The COSI Samui Chaweng Beach a brand new hotel attached to the Samui CentralFestival Mall. Location is very convenient as everything is walking distance from here, in less than five minutes you can have the sand in your toes at Chaweng beach or be enjoying a drink at one of the many beer bars or clubs of Soi Green Mango. The hotel is geared at a 20-30something crowd looking for something cheap, modern and smart. Closest thing that comes to mind would be a hipper version of a Tune Hotel or Ibis. Facilities are limited but include a chill out area above the reception, nice rooftop pool and a little cafe where you can use up your daily 200 Baht complimentary voucher for food and drinks. Rooms are all very small at 18 to 21 sqm, so to be manageable you probably will want to book here only of you spend very limited time inside. Otherwise the design is modern and all the amenities you need are provided: Bed is quite comfortable, not some cheap mattress and pillows, 43-inch Smart flatscreen TV comes with some good channel selection, multiple usb charger points are found for your electronics, some clothes hanging […]
209/4, Moo 2, Chaweng, Bophut, Koh Samui 84320, Thailand
The D Varee Diva Avenue Samui is located just a stone’s throw from Soi Reggae, so if you like to be near the bargirl scene there is plenty of selection just a few steps away. The hotel is split into two separate buildings, the better of the two which hosts the superior and deluxe category rooms has the reception, pool and restaurant. the second, the “residence wing” has the older rooms and gym. Price is very reasonable for what you get but there is nothing really amazing about this hotel. The rooftop pool, which is the main feature is great to have quick dip to cool off but there’s no bar and very limited seating. The superior category are actually quite nice, of decent enough size, bed is average, not exactly hard but could be softer, Led-TV did provide a few good channels to watch, you could see they had fitted a new new air con unit recently and made some renovations. large fridge, decent balcony, electronic safe and the usual coffee/tea making facilities where also present. Wi-Fi was a bit hit and miss especially at peak usage times. Bathroom is of open-glass type with shower, pressure was actually very […]
3/55 Moo 2, Soi Poonsawas, Chaweng, Ko Samui, Thailand 84320
The Dara Samui Beach Resort’s location is awesome, right the middle of the lively part of town, all of the best bars and clubs within easy walking distance. Yet at the same time, once inside this Adult-only resort, you feel locked away in a little haven of peace. The grounds are a bit quirky but help create a relaxing atmosphere with it’s interesting mix of beautiful tropical gardens, wooden walkways and streams of water running throughout, at the beachfront a small but lovely swimming pool and bar lead directly on to the sea. Do keep in mind the beach at this end of Chaweng is very shallow and is not great for swimming, so if that’s a priority you might want to look elsewhere. Room are designed in traditional Thai style and are very well maintained, I really enjoyed the antique wooden bed with it’s comfy mattress and pillows. Amenities also offer modern comfort with TV set offering a selection of english movie channels, a silent and powerful air-conditioning system, free W-Fi and little appreciated extra’s such as a pod coffee machine. Bathroom was well designed with double sinks and a separate bath and shower area. Awarded year after year the […]
162/2 Moo 2 Chaweng Beach, Chaweng, Koh Samui 84320, Thailand
First Bungalow Beach Resort is situated a little after southern end of Chaweng Beach, right on Chaweng Noi beach. Stayed in one of the beach bungalows, which were a little dated but the location right in front of the crystal waters of Chaweng Noi made up for that. Beach bar was very handy, the drinks and snacks there are very reasonably price, always plenty of free sun loungers around, very relaxing area. Bungalows are sized at 34 sqm and kept spotless, beds maybe a little firm but yeah this is Thailand, Flat-screen TV had grainy reception, Wi-Fi a little slow at times, fine for social media stuff but definitely no video streaming. Other than that no issues: A/C ran seemingly, mini-bar kept your drinks cool, electronic safe for your valuables, tea and coffee making facilities, etc. Bathroom has a bath over shower setup that provided instant hot water, toiletries were limited to bath gel, shampoo and cotton buds. Resort also offers cheaper but almost identical pool bungalows as well as even more affordable accommodations in a high rise building. The swimming pool area is massive with a pool bar on deck, always lots of sun-beds available. Place is not recommended […]
4/6 Moo 3, Chaweng Beach, Chaweng, Koh Samui, Surat Thani, 84320, Thailand
The Kirikayan is smaller 4-Star Boutique Resort with just a handful of rooms located near the quieter southern end of Chaweng Beach, about a good 20 to 30 minutes walk from the nightlife of Soi Reggae and Green Mango. Amenities include a lovely infinity pool with swim up bar facing the beach and ocean from where wide steps lead down to a beautifully kept beachfront, on one of my favorite patches of sand of the Chaweng strip. I ended up spending most of my days moving back and forth between the loungers on the beach and the ones beside the pool. Room are in Thai style, very comfortable and cosy with lovely gardens on the lower level. Awarded TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence in 2018, the Kirikayan will please those looking for a small and intimate guest friendly resort away from the hustle and bustle of central Chaweng. Have a look below for the pictures of the room and hotel amenities.
Kirikayan Boutique Resort
The Lamai Bay View Resort stands at the quiet end of Lamai bay in a peaceful location a good half an hour on foot from the beer bars of the Lamai city center, or just only a quick drive by motorbike which can be rented at the property. For those are uncommon with the area, one of the most beautiful strips of sand of the island: Silver beach is only 15 minutes walk away. The property grounds are very inviting, about two dozen individual bungalows are spread in a tropical garden on sloping terrain that ends in a beautiful beach. Bungalows price depend mostly on size, not so much of amenities. Definitely not 5-star but pleasant and well maintained, furnished with all the basics: Big fridge, decent A/C unit, TV set, electronic safe, coffee making facilities and Wifi. The private terraces all offer splendid views. The resort amenities also include a swimming pool, open air restaurant and a small private beach with some sun loungers and hammocks. In the end a great a place for those looking to relax and totally unwind during the daytime, not so much for those who need nightlife and entertainment right at their doorsteps. Have […]
1/1 Moo 4, Lamai Beach, Maret, Koh Samui, Surat Thani, 84310, Thailand
The Lamai Wanta is one of the most conveniently located resorts in Lamai, directly in the middle of the action with all the beer bars, pubs and clubs practically at your doorstep or within an easy 5 minutes walk. Tucked in a side street in a lovely tropical garden setting, very little noise of the hustle and bustle manages to get into the resort. A pool overlooking the beach is found at the front of the property, with poolside bar service, always plenty of sun loungers to chose from on the beach and around the pool. Entry level rooms are quite basic but come with all the essentials (TV, A/C mini-bar, safe, kettle, free daily water, etc). Particularly enjoyed the bed and pillows, unusually comfortable for Thailand. Unfortunately WiFi signal was hit and miss. Free standing bungalows area also available closer to the beach. Highly recommended for it’s proximity of the nightlife, excellent beachfront location with an infinity pool overlooking the sea and competitive rates during low season. Have a look below for the pictures I have personally took during my stay of the room and hotel amenities.
124/264 Moo 3, Maret, Lamai Beach, Lamai, Koh Samui 84310, Thailand
Le Murraya Resort is located in a quieter area just south of chaweng lake, within easy walking distance (about 5 to 10 minutes) from the beach and the beer bar hostesses of Soi Reggae. The resort features a 24-hour gym, restaurant (limited to serving breakfast) and a smalll outdoor pool set in a lovely garden area with a dozen or so sun loungers and parasols that you can enjoy by yourserlf most of the time. One of the advantages of staying here at Le Murraya is you also get to use, free of charge, the fantastic 4-star beachfront and pool facilities of their sister hotel, the Synergy Samui Resort just 5 minutes away. My personnal reason for chosing Le Muraya and the most likely the reason they get awarded the Certificate of Excellence by TripAdvisor are the huge rooms they offer for the price. The smallest category starting at 45 sqm are already very spacious while the suites are massive. While definitely not high-end, rooms come with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay and are more of an apartment with seperate bedroom, living and kitchenette area plus a private balcony with table and chairs. All come equipped […]

The Manathai Koh Samui is Located at the northern tip of Lamai beach, about a 15-20 minutes walk from the beer bars and nightlife of the Lamai center. The resort is split in two by a road, the main hotel portion of the resort itself is quite beautiful, reminiscent of an old colonial house with a small pool, two restaurants and a pub on site. The main pool and beach club are on the other side, it’s pool is big and the view overlooking the sea is very pleasant, waterline bar next to it is excellent, lots of sun loungers around to sit back and relax. Staff are very polite and friendly, the food here is also quite good although a bit expensive. Beachfront is a little disappointing as it at the top of a cove with rocks, shallow with no direct swimming area at all, for that you will need to walk a further 500 meters further down to find very nice swimming beach. Booked a deluxe room on the ground floor with a private outdoor patio, decently sized at 32 m², bed is super comfy and large, TV reception a little is fuzzy, reasonably priced mini-bar, plenty of power […]

The Marina Beach Resort is an excellent no frills beachfront accommodation, set a bit back from the main road so quiet and relaxing once inside but only 5 minutes walk to the beer bars, wide stretch of beach and sand right on the doorstep, perfect for swimming and sunbathing, deck chairs available as well as free towels, small pool seen better days. Tried the bungalow category, which are not exactly stand-alone but more like a duplex, quite basic and old-fashioned, bed was too firm to my taste, Wifi slow, otherwise rest of the amenities: Air conditioner, TV, safe, bathroom/shower satisfactory. Nice little balcony to pop open a beer, no noise from the bars. Cheaper rooms are also available in the main building but haven’t tried yet. Overall while in the budget category, the resort offers good value for money, the location is top with the beach almost at your front door and the nightlife just 5 minutes walk away. Recommended! Have a look below for the pictures of the room and hotel amenities.

The Nova Samui Resort is positioned on a steep hill around Chaweng lake, in a quiet area just 10 to 15 minutes walk to Soi Green Mango and the beach, it’s lush tropical grounds surroundings make it idea for those who want to relax and detox during the daytime away from the main strip, the swimming pool and bar area, probably the main selling point for the resort is clean and very inviting. Do keep in mind that having a room on the hill won’t be ideal for those who have any mobility issues, as there were in my case exactly 139 steps from reception to the room. Rooms are cleaned daily and pleasant, maybe a little dated, but nothing to worry about. Essentials are covered: Beds are comfortable, TV offers a selection of a few English speaking channels, the small mini bar is well stocked, a tiny electronic safe is provided, free Wi-Fi. Every room also has its own balcony you can sit out and relax to the sounds of nature while enjoying a cold beer. Overall good value for money, definitely not a luxury resort but nicely located, just far away from the noise of the party street […]
147/3 Moo 2 Chaweng Beach, Bophut, Ko Samui 84320, Thailand
The O.P Bungalow offers a great budget option for travelers looking for a beachfront resort within walking distance from Chaweng’s busy nightlife area. Resort is beautifully laid out on tropical gardens, beach only a few meters from the bungalows, easygoing restaurant with tables in the sand, very helpful beach staff who setup your sun loungers anywhere you like, cozy little beach bar with good drinks and slow music, long happy hour 100 THB cocktails offered until in the evening. Very relaxing vibe going on, you actually don’t realize just how close the busy Chaweng streets. Limited facilities besides that: No pool, gym, etc. Bungalows are very rustic in nature, clean and simple. Each has it’s own little balcony with chairs overlooking over the tropical gardens. Interior looks more like a hotel room than a bungalows but all the essential are provided: Adjustable A/C unit keeps you cool, big fridge with cold drinks available priced the same as the restaurant, comfy bed, safe in the room, bathroom been renovated recently and has a good hot shower & lots of water pressure. Few downsides: Very basic toiletries set not replenished, Older CRT TV has fuzzy reception and is short on channels, WiFi […]

The Pattra Vill is a beautiful resort right at the heart of Lamai, literally right nextdoor to the towns largest concentration of beer bars and nightlife: Beer Bar Central and only a 6 minute walk to the lovely Lamai beach. Situated in a well-maintained, beautiful garden, the highlight is certainly the large and inviting swimming at it’s center, the perfect antidote to a long night out partying. The accommodations, which make up a total of 22 rooms or villas are all very spacious with high ceilings. The smallest room category at the The Pattra Vill Resort starts at 50 m² and come equipped with everything you need: Beautiful finishes, great mattress, linen, and pillows, larger-than-bar-size fridge, flat-screen TV, Reliable and fast WiFi signal, kitchenette, front patio to relax on, etc. If you enjoy partying all night and you want to be staying as close to everything as humanly possible, to after go back and fall into your private little comfort space, then this is definitely the place to be. Maybe a little expensive but if you got the budget, this is wonderful new resort with great accommodations, a big and inviting pool surrounded by a beautiful garden at an unbeatable location […]
124/329 Moo 3, Lamai, Maret,Surat Thani, Koh Samui 84310, Thailand
The Samui Beach Resort is secluded on the quieter southern of Lamai and is best for those looking for a very relaxed atmosphere away from the crowds. While still within walking distance (15-20 mins) from the main beer bar area just renting out one of their scooters at 200 baht/day would make sense to come and go as you please especially at night. The resort is generally very good value for money year round, definitely not in the high-end category but got all the basics covered for a good stay: Lovely gardens with plenty of places to lounge around, small swimming pool, a restaurant/bar all just a few meters from the beach. The accommodation ranges from older rooms in a two stories building to classic garden bungalows and a more posh deluxe beachfront bungalows category. Personally tried only garden bungalows, no real issues found, kept fairly clean, AC worked perfectly, good bed, flat screen-TV with good reception, mini-bar, maybe the WiFi not too stable, dropping out here and there otherwise no complaints. In the end a great little budget resort at the end of Lamai beach, bit of a walk to town, recommended to have rent a scooter or be ready to […]

The Samui First House Resort enjoys a nice and quiet location along Chaweng’s southern end. Sandwiched right in-between Chaweng and Chaweng Noi beaches, you can easily access both under 5 mins walk. The resort built it’s own a private bridge which backs out onto directly onto Chaweng Noi in about 2-3 minutes, where plenty of sun loungers sunbeds and umbrellas (no charge) await you. The sand is a little more course than on the main Chaweng drag but it’s a more secluded and private area, sea is warm and blue with lots of tropical fishes swimming around, beachfront hotels you will find along it are also typically more higher-end. The resort itself is split into two different building, which offer different comfort levels. Standard rooms are located in the budget older wing with little or no view while newer main building, shaped like a little like cruise ship, host the more comfortable deluxe rooms around the pool. Bear in mind, that regardless of the room category you chose room, the main reason for staying in this ageing resort is the direct access to Chaweng Noi beach. Though you can reach the center quite easily using the songthaew (public shared taxi) […]

The Samui Island Beach is not the newest of resorts, but will please those looking for simple and affordable beachfront accommodations just outside of the main Chaweng strip. Town is still quite easily accessible by road with a 5-minutes tuk-tuk ride or a longer 20-minutes walk via the beach. Location is perfect for those who love to have some daytime relaxation by the pool and bar overlooking the ocean. The beach is only accessible at low tide, the rest of the time the water comes right up to the edge of the resort, making it more like sitting by a pier. The Samui Island Beach Resort offers modest bungalows, beds are comfortable but the older amenities could definitely do with a little TLC. However despite being in need of some updating, the rooms are kept clean and the bedding/towels changed daily. Staff very pleasant and accommodating. Should please those looking for a quiet and no-frills beachfront accommodation outside of the main Chaweng strip. Have a look below for the pictures of the room and hotel amenities.
154/3 Moo 2, Chaweng Beach Road, Chaweng, Koh Samui 84320, Thailand
The Samui Laguna Resort enjoys a good location on a quiet part of the beach just a 5-10 minutes walk from all the pubs and beer bars of the town center. This part of the beach is fairly large, clean and the sea is good to swim in. Amenities include a nice little swimming pool and a beachfront restaurant offering a generous Happy hour from 12pm to 7pm with plenty of sun loungers around. They offer bungalows near the beach and a cheaper rooms in their main building. The bungalow are a bit old fashioned but fairly large in size at 40 m²/431 ft² with a generous verandas, not luxurious but in the 3-star category, maids do a decent job at keeping the place spotless. Bit disappointed by the old crt type TV and the fact there is no electronic safe in the room, otherwise everything else was of good standard. In this end good value for money, short walking distance from the bars, bungalows close to the beach, pool and bar with long happy hours, what more do you want or need? Have a look below for the pictures of the room and hotel amenities.

The Samui Seabreeze Place Hotel is located in a quieter end of Lamai just a very short, hundred or so meters walk from the beach across the road. Nightlife and Beer Bar Central are also conveniently located only two hundred meters away down the road. Atmosphere is Friendly and chilled, the main building could do with a little TLC here and there but otherwise but the pool area and facilities are in great shape. Rooms themselves are quite small, but clean and functional with all the basic necessities: Mini-bar, proper air-con, electronic safe, older TV set with a decent selection of stations, WiFi, decent enough walk-in shower with hot water and a balcony. Never been bothered by any noise at night from the nightlife area as you could hardly even hear it from the balcony. No restaurant in house, but all you need to do is cross the street to their sister resort, the Sea Breeze Bungalows from where you can enjoy a meal and all their beachfront facilities. In the end a nice little no-frills hotel in a quiet location, close to the beach with a nice little swimming pool. Have a look below for the pictures I have […]

The Sand Sea Resort & Spa is a beachfront hotel within a 15-20 minutes walking distance from the beer bars of Lamai. Beach was quiet, great swimming areas all around, perfect for those looking for a relaxing stay. Don’t come here expecting for luxury, resort is simple and basic with some parts a little run down but the bungalows are just a few footsteps from beach, plenty of sunbeds available, swimming pool is nice and deep, loved the laid-back vibe at the beachfront bar and restaurant, staff are friendly and happy. Do go for a sea front bungalows or suite if you can afford them, they are amazing. Overall, the resort could do with a little TLC here and there otherwise great little unpretentious beachfront resort in a quiet part of the beach just a short walk from the centre of Lamai. Have a look below for the pictures of the room and hotel amenities.

The Sans Souci Samui is located right at the southern end of Chaweng beach, resort is is a complex of 22 bungalows built around a beautiful garden courtyard just a few seconds walk from the beachfront. Rooms are decorated in Thai style, with dark mahogany paneling and furniture, a little old fashioned but very clean, beds are lovely, fresh bed-linen and towels are changed everyday. There are a few caveats that could turn off some people: No safe in the room, older generation TV set with fuzzy reception, WiFi is very patchy and there’s no swimming pool, but somehow this never stopped me from coming back, beachfront location is is divine, regularly cleaned and swept by the hotel employees and so much quieter than the locations further up north. Whole resort has some kind of sanctuary feel to it with it’s well manicured tropical grounds, restaurant overlooking beach, simple yet very comfortable rooms. Staff are also wonderful and super friendly, they really are good at making you feel at home immediately. Keep in mind the nightlife is a good 20 to 30 minutes away but at the same time just a short songthaew (public transport) ride away. In the end […]
4/4 Moo 3 T. Bophut, Chaweng Beach, Chaweng, Koh Samui 84320, Thailand
The Seascape Beach Resort is a good option for travellers on a budget looking for a beachfront resort. Located on the quieter southern end of Chaweng Beach, it’s about a 20 to 25 minutes walk from Soi Green Mango, the center of Chaweng’s nightlife. While a little tired in some areas, the Seascape still offers some very decent value for money. Pool is small and in need of an upgrade but the beach was clean and well looked after. The staff were very attentive and always ready to find you some space to fit you with a sun lounger and parasol around the pool or at the beach. Resort has its own restaurant as well as beach bar snacks. Drinks and bar meals always brought to you swiftly on request. Deluxe rooms are clean, bright and spacious with a big balcony overlooking the garden. Amenities include a comfortable king size bed, TV, air-con, free WiFi throughout the resort, all you need really, if I was to be picky I’d say the shower didn’t have much water pressure. No elevator might be a problem for those with mobility issues but the building is only 3 floors high. Free breakfast is sufficient […]

Nested on a steep hill top about a 10 minutes walk from the Lamai viewpoint, the Tropical Sea View Residence is made up of modern studios and apartments offering gorgeous views over Lamai beach. Rooms are large, comfortable and have all the modern amenities you could expect from a private residence, TV’s all the rooms, WiFi, kitchenette, efficient and quiet air con units, ample wardrobe and storage, floor to ceiling glass partitions and large terraces with in a Jacuzzi in case of the deluxe category apartments. Common area only include a swimming pool, staff is polite and very easy going, but do keep in mind these are not serviced private residences so cleaning and change of bed linen/towels only occurs twice a week. Renting out your own transportation vehicle or motor bike is also a necessity as it’s otherwise a harrowing task up and down into town every day. Highly recommended for those looking for private modern residences with magnificent views over Lamai beach from your balcony. Have a look below for the pictures of the room and hotel amenities.
127/232 Moo 3, Lamai, Surat Thani, Ko Samui 84310, Thailand
The Varinda Garden is a very unique resort perched on a hilltop overlooking the ocean and south Lamai Beach, it is a little hard to give an exact description, because it is so many things at once. Over the course of 20 years, the same Thai family has been running the resort, what started out as a few simple huts on Lamai beach developed into a sprawling laid back hill oasis. The multi-level design offers lots different areas to explore, to best sum it up the Varinda Garden Resort is one part hippy counter-culture, one part artistic melange and one part tropical jungle oasis. It’s impossible to walk around it at first without having a smile with the multitude of different little visual aspects and funky decorations all around. The bungalows are set in a lush tropical garden setting, surrounded in think vegetation and secluded from one and other so you’ll hardly hear or know any other people around. While rustic they are quite cozy. The resort has is a lovely infinity pool area and restaurant offering open view over the bay. Above of which there is a huge, again open view lounge area with hammocks and chairs to relax […]

The Weekender Resort is conveniently located right on the beachfront and within 5 minutes walking distance from the naughty nightlife of Lamai. Facilities at this upscale 4-star resort are excellent, quiet and spacious surroundings, neat and tidy gardens, fantastic infinity pool with plenty of beds leading straight onto a portion of the beach that is ideal for swimming, gorgeous views from the beach front, restaurant and bar a little on the expensive side. Standard rooms are the furthest from the beach and closest to the street, recommend booking at least the superior rooms, just 10 meters from the pool, higher category is either directly around the pool or with sea-view. Rooms are beautiful, a little dark but modern and clean, great bedding quality, slept like a baby in a completely noise-free environment for my whole stay. Only downside was the WiFi in the room, which was limited to only two devices, other than that a great stay! So in the end, If you are looking for a quiet, well run 4-star resort in the center of Lamai with direct access to the beach and a great infinity pool this is aplace to consider.
